Year-over-Year Growth
YoY growth
Definition
Year-over-year (YoY) growth compares a metric in one period with the same period the year before, expressed as a percentage.
How to calculate YoY growth
YoY growth = (this period − same period last year) ÷ same period last year × 100
Example: revenue of €1.2m in Q3 this year versus €1.0m in Q3 last year is 20% YoY growth.
Why use YoY?
Comparing with the same period last year removes seasonal effects, which makes it a better measure of real growth than month-over-month changes for many B2B businesses.
