B2B Sales
Economic Buyer
Budget holder, final decision-maker
Definition
The economic buyer is the person in a buying committee with the final authority to approve the budget and sign off on a purchase.
How to identify the economic buyer
Ask how similar purchases were approved in the past, who owns the budget line and who signs contracts of this size. In many B2B deals it is a C-level executive or a department head.
Why it matters
Deals often stall when the seller never reaches the person who controls the money. Frameworks such as MEDDIC make access to the economic buyer an explicit qualification step.
